Dr. Shirley Ann Powell, 82, of Mendenhall, Mississippi, died Saturday, September 1, 2018, at Hospice Ministries Ridgeland, MS. She was born Friday, August 14, 1936.
Visitation will be held on Monday, September 3, 2018 from 10:30 AM until 11:30 AM at the County Line Baptist Church in Puckett, Mississippi.
Funeral Services will be held Monday, September 3, 2018 at 11:30 AM at County Line Baptist Church in Puckett. The Burial will follow in County Line Baptist Church Cemetery. Bro Mickey Ferguson will officiate. Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Magee is in charge of arrangements. (601) 849-5031
Powell was a member of County Line Baptist Church. Dr. Shirley Oglesby Powell, Ph D., worked as the Director of Children’s Ministry at Parkway Baptist Church in Jackson, MS. Dr. Powell also worked for the Mississippi Baptist Convention and served as Southern Baptist Foreign Missionary in Jordan and Zimbabwe.
She was preceded in death by husband, Hiram Powell, her parents, Plummer & Hattie Smith, sister, Jimmie McNair.
Survivors include son, John Oglesby (Kim), daughter, Therrell Carr, son, Jeff Powell (Mary Ellen), daughter, Monica Ivey (Todd), Grandchildren Seth Powell (Ashley), Ben Powell, Nate Ivey, Erin McCalla (Thomas), Mallory Dean (Richard), Meredith Tackett (Joey), Christian Carr, Cade Carr, Walter Oglesby (Brianne), Rebecca Oglesby, Abby Oglesby, Katie Oglesby, Great-grandchildren, Parker Dean, Payton Dean, Addi Tackett, sisters, Betty Benton, and Judy Boggs.
Pallbearers will be Bob Benton, Richard Boggs, Taylor Boggs, Marshall Boggs, Jacob Huff, Ty Palmer.
