Dr. Harold Brooks: A Life of Service, Family, and Adventure
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Dr. Harold Brooks, a distinguished dentist, beloved family man, and adventurer at heart. A native of Mendenhall, Dr. Brooks laid his educational foundation at Mendenhall High School, furthered his studies at Millsaps College, and honed his skills in dentistry at the University of Tennessee in Memphis. Dr. Brooks embarked on a successful career in dentistry, establishing a private practice in Magee that flourished over the years thanks to his dedication and skill. His work not only brightened the smiles of countless individuals but also left a lasting impact on the community he served so diligently. Beyond his professional life, Dr. Brooks was a devoted family man.
He leaves behind his loving wife, Glenda Mangum Brooks; his sister, Tenelia Brooks Frier; his children, Jeffrey Brooks (Robin), Lana Brooks, John Mangum (Stacy), Kris Mangum (Jennifer), and Susan Mangum (Brandiilyne); along with numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren who will miss his presence deeply.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Sam and Laurie Welch Brooks.
Dr. Brooks was also a man of many interests and talents. In his retirement, he found joy in assembling complex models of shipping vessels, a testament to his patience and attention to detail, and working his land on his tractor, connecting with the earth in a way only he could. His adventurous spirit was reflected in his passion for riding motorcycles across the country with close friends, exploring the vast landscapes and enjoying the freedom of the open road. Notably, Dr. Brooks was among the original board of directors for the founding of the Bank of Simpson County, now known as Priority One. His visionary contributions to the bank’s inception have left an indelible mark on the financial landscape of the region. Dr. Harold Brooks lived a life rich in achievements, love, and adventure. As we bid him farewell, we celebrate the legacy he leaves behind—a legacy of compassion, dedication, and a zest for life that will continue to inspire those who knew him. Dr. Brooks will be dearly missed, but his spirit will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and the community he cherished.
