The Magee Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors hosted its Membership and Guest Breakfast on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, at the Family Life Center of First Baptist Church of Magee.

Chamber President Nancy Brown opened the program with a warm welcome. Pastor Bradley Edwards of Christ Fellowship Church followed with the invocation and led attendees in the Pledge of Allegiance. Former Magee Mayor Jimmy Clyde added a special touch to the morning by performing the National Anthem on his trumpet. Breakfast followed.

Mayor Mark Grubbs introduced the keynote speaker, Mississippi Commissioner of Agriculture and Commerce Andy Gipson.

Gipson addressed the importance of agriculture to both Mississippi and the nation, stressing the state’s potential to expand production and keep profits local. “We don’t need to be sending our cotton overseas to have it turned into a t-shirt to ship back here to us,” Gipson said. “Somebody else is profiting. We could do all that right here in Mississippi, right here in America.”

He noted that, amid ongoing trade tensions with China, the U.S. can expect to see greater domestic production in the coming years—a change that could benefit Mississippi farmers and manufacturers.

In closing, Gipson confirmed his candidacy for Mississippi Governor. He told the audience that after prayerful consideration and discussions with his family, he felt called to enter the race. “I prayed about the decision, talked it over with my wife, and ultimately felt led to put my name into the race,” he said.

The breakfast brought together local business leaders, community members, and elected officials, offering both fellowship and insight into the future of Mississippi agriculture and politics.
