“Dr. Mayfield brings a wealth of community college experience to the Mississippi Community College Board,” said Mr. Lee Bush, Chairman of the Mississippi Community College Board.  “She has a strong background in all aspects of a community college campus, and just as importantly, she also understands the unique roles that our community colleges have in Mississippi.  Whether it is academic courses, workforce training, career and technical education, high school equivalency, or any other programs our colleges offer, Dr. Mayfield will bring a campus perspective to our agency that will enable us to continue to offer the valuable services we provide to Mississippi.  We are excited that she is coming back to the state and look forward to her leading the agency.”

“I am excited to return to Mississippi, and I look forward to working with our state leaders to strengthen our colleges, schools and the state’s economy,” said Dr. Mayfield.  “Through collaborative efforts, innovative partnerships, and strategic use of resources, Mississippi will see a return on investment from our community college system. By providing needed resources in conjunction with a collaborative alignment of workforce and educational efforts geared to increase employment opportunities and prepare people for work in a technologically driven market, the State of Mississippi and Mississippi’s education system, at all levels, will become a pipeline for success in terms of putting people to work, economic development and subsequent increase in state and local revenue. Mississippi community and junior colleges are proven leaders in workforce development and providing an educational foundation for learning and success. Working as one, we will see significant progress. I am committed to serving and leading positive change to strengthen Mississippi. ”

The Mississippi Community College Board was established in 1986 as an independent agency that coordinates activities at the state’s fifteen public community colleges.  The Board consists of ten members appointed by the Governor.  Each year approximately 250,000 Mississippians are educated or trained at Mississippi’s community colleges.
