Dixie Crosby Brown,77, of Brandon passed peacefully from this life on Monday, March 7, 2016, at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland after a battle with multiple melanoma which was diagnosed by her longtime family doctor and friend, Dr. Lucius Sams, and treated for many years by Dr. Guangzhi Qu of Jackson Oncology.  Mrs. Brown was a member of First Baptist Church of Brandon and received much love and support from Marie McAlpin’s Sunday school class during the course of her illness.  Funeral services will be held on Sunday, March 13, 2016 at Colonial Funeral Home in Mendenhall, MS at 3:00 PM.  Dan Hall and Rodney Bounds of First Baptist Church of Brandon will officiate.  Burial will be at Owens Cemetery in Shivers, MS. Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Magee is in charge of arrangements, 601-849-5031.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 13, 2016, from 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home in Mendenhall, MS.

She is survived by daughters- Pam Brown Lingle (Mark) of Mandeville, LA and  Marlene Brown of Dallas, Georgia; sisters – Joyce Ogletree (Donald) of Philadelphia, MS, Nita Halvorson (Larry) of Pearl, MS,  Belle Sanford (Len) of Brandon, MS, and Jeanene Smith (Paul) of Brookhaven, MS; grandchildren – Barrett Lingle of New York, NY, Morgan Gladson and  Maddie Gladson of  Dallas, Georgia; several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by: parents – Oscar and Loucile Crosby; brother – John Crosby.

Pallbearers will be: Monie Phillips, Marty Phillips, Glenn Ogletree, Cory Halverson, Owen Smith, and Tristan Phillips.

Mrs. Brown retired from The Walker Companies in 2012 after 14 years of employment in the accounting department.  Prior to The Walker Companies, Mrs. Brown worked with Maxwell Cotton Company for many years in Inverness, MS before moving from the Delta. She loved and treasured the people and the work she felt fortunate to be associated with over her working career.  Mrs. Brown will be missed greatly by her family and friends, but they are comforted that she is with our Lord.

The family would like to thank her caregivers for their love and support through this journey: Shirley Travis, Dora Jones, Andrea Burton, Bobbie Winston, and Gloria Smith.
