Two families, William and Joyce Fields and Sara Sullivan, met before the Board of Alderman with concerns over closing an alley. A dispute has arrived over property lines. The city under the advisement of Attorney Bruce Smith, decided to hire a surveyor to determine the actual plot of the alley. Once a survor is complete the city will meet with the two parties determine property lines and at that time discuss the needs to close the alley. The city water and sewer lines are located in the alley and city would retain all right of way to utility lines.
Mayor Beery announced their would be a special called meeting Wednesday, February 3, 2021 at 5:00 discussing grant money.
Jeff Dyer donated money to the city for the purchase of a camera for the dog catcher. Tommy Harmond donated rose bushes for the flower beds located at the police department.
Berry advised Magee had the cheapest water rates in the area with the exception of Forrest.
City primary election is set for April 6, 2021. If needed a runoff election would be held on April 27, 2021. The general election would take place June 8, 2021. The board approved to pay poll workers $120.00 to work day of election. Absentee voting will start Wednesday, March 3, 2021 at City Hall. The board approved to have paper ballots due to cost of electronic machines. No cell phones or cameras will be allowed in the voting precints. City Hall will be open 8-12 the two Saturday’s before the election for absentee voting. The elected board will take office July 2021.
The city baseball and softball are getting ready to compose teams and draft kids in the near further. Games will be staring in the coming weeks.
Hugh Dillmore advised security lightning had been placed at the city barn. the limb and debris removal is still underway but has halted for a couple of days due to rain and not able to drive in pit without bogging down. Be patience as the weather improves in the coming days the debris will soon be removed from the curbs.
Matt Largen with Henerick signs and Dr. Lake Garner came before the board requesting permission to install a digital billboard on the south bound lane close to Loves Truck Stop. The city currently has a billboard at this location. The billboard would have to be removed to meet code for MDOT. Two billboards can not be located that close together. Garner would provide the city with a new sign closer to Polk’s that states Shop Main Street in lieu of billboard being removed. The city has the new Magee High School State Championship sign in the location. Garner agreed to relocate the sign and add state championship to the new city sign located closer to Polk’s. The city agreed to the sign pending written agreement with the city, Hederick, Garner, and approval of MDOT.
No further business meeting was recessed until Wednesday, March 3, 2021.
