William Danny Cox, 69 years old, better known as “Ole Man” of Braxton, MS, passed away Tuesday, January 16, 2018, at University of MS Medical Center.

Danny was born in Columbus, Georgia, on October 8, 1948, to Shelley and Francis Cox. He has two siblings, Shirley Anne Roberts and Michael Wade Cox. Once Danny’s father retired from active military, they made their permanent home in Phenix City, Alabama. In 1966, at the age of 18, he voluntarily joined and served four years in the United States Marine Corps. During that time, he was deployed to Vietnam and served his country as a reconnaissance scout. He then served 14 years in the United States Army National Guard as a fire direction control specialist. His civilian job during his 14 years in the army was a heavy equipment operator for the city of Columbus, Georgia. Danny then served 22 years and retired from the Mississippi Air National Guard.

Danny married his wife, Dandra Carol Peacock, on April 27, 1984. They established their home in Braxton, MS in 1985, where they raised their four children, Scott, Joshua, Phillip, and Elizabeth. Danny built a home and created a place for family and friends, “not to watch movies, but to make movies.” Danny was a humble man with a brilliant mind. He lived his life with integrity and unconditional love for his family. He was a gentleman at all times and was kind and respectful to everyone he met, and for this, he was admired and liked by all. You could always find Danny in his shop cheering on the Crimson Tide, woodworking, or reading National Geographic to the kids. Danny had a love for history and believed it was important for all his children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews, to grow up knowing the history and foundation of this country. He had a workshop, not only full of tools but love. His shop contained many history books, maps, and memories that his family will cherish for years to come.
