David Wallace Gumm Sr. left his earthly home for his heavenly one on Friday, May 29, 2020, surrounded by his loved ones. He was born on June 13, 1940, to his parents, the late James Wallace and Ruby (Weaver) Gumm in West Virginia.

David grew up surrounded in a large family with six brothers and two sisters. His family meant the world to him and he truly enjoyed spending time with them. He was a friend to all he met. He was a member of Poplar Springs Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Carolyn (Starnes) Gumm; one son, David Gumm Jr. (Trish); two daughters, Carol M. Middleton (Billy M.), Kathleen Welch; five brothers, Joe Gumm, John Gumm, Steve Gumm, Phil Gumm , Jerry Gumm; sisters, Marie Jenkins, Joyce Burgess and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Ruby Gumm and six brother, Tom Gumm.

A graveside service will be held at 11:30 am on Monday, June 1, 2020, at Poplar Springs Cemetery. Reverend Ted Bowlin will officiate with interment following.

Arrangements are entrusted with Tutor Funeral Home of Mendenhall.
