David graduated from Magee High School in 1981 and then attended Mississippi Sate University until his graduation in 1987.  On October 1, 1987, he was united in marriage to Ouida Bates.  Together they made a life in Mendenhall, Ms. and raised two sons – Michael David and Andrew Tyler.  David was a loyal employee with the State of Mississippi until he retired in June 2015 from the Public Service Commission.  Afterwards, he went to work with Southeast Gas Transmission.  As a loving husband, father and son, he enjoyed spending time with his family.  Together they attended Athens Baptist Church where they have been an active part of its reconstruction in the past year.  In Davis’s spare time, he was an avid fisherman and hunter.  As a devoted father, he shared his interests with his sons guiding and teaching them.

David is survived by his wife Ouida Bates Kennedy, two sons Michael Kennedy and Andrew Kennedy all of Mendenhall; his parents, Mildred Mangum and David Eugene Kennedy Sr. of Magee; his older sister, Susan Kennedy McKinnie (Charlie) of Vicksburg; mother-in-law Carolyn Reed of Mendenhall; father-in-law Dr. Conway Bates (Julie) of Mendenhall; and many other loving family members.
