David Eugene Gamble
(February 20, 1937 – November 13, 2021)

          David Eugene Gamble, 84, of Taylorsville, Mississippi, passed away from his earthly home to his heavenly home on Thursday, November 13, 2021, at his residence surrounded by his loving family.

          Visitation will be held on Friday, November 19, 2021, from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at Summerland Baptist Church in Taylorsville, Mississippi, and on Saturday November 20, 2021, from 8:00 a.m. until service time.

          Funeral Services will be held Saturday, November 20, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. at Summerland Baptist Church. The burial will follow in Summerland Baptist Church Cemetery in Taylorsville, Mississippi. Brother Eric Estes and Brother Andy Pittman will officiate. Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Taylorsville is in charge of arrangements. (601) 785-6564

          David Eugene Gamble was born on February 20, 1937, in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. He was the youngest of 11 children and lived in Purvis, Mississippi.

Growing up, he learned to fish, hunt, and play guitar. He had several family members that played instruments and sang. The high school band that he played in, won the FFA state talent show. After high school, David worked for a concrete construction company that completed the roadway and overpasses on Highway 59 in the Hattiesburg area. They are still in use today.

          He then met Gearoleen Hendricks, and they were married on May 24, 1957. They lived in the Lumberton area for a few years, until David went to work for Amerada Hess. Carla was born in November of 1960. Three years later, he accepted a position with Hess as a crude oil tanker truck driver, in the Soso area. The family moved to Summerland and lived in a house adjacent to Bradford and Elaine Shows. John was born about this time in 1964, and then Tim in 1967.

          David and Gearoleen eventually found a piece of land and a house, where they settled and raised their family. He was a member of Summerland Baptist Church for about 58 years and a deacon for 40 years.

          Some of David’s favorite things:

Faith, Bible (King James Version, of course), Prayer, Love.

Gardening: he loved to grow vegetables. He also loved to grow his sugar cane and have the grandchildren push the grinder and catch the juice.

Hunting and fishing: he was a good shot. He liked to deer, squirrel, and coon hunt and taught his boys well. The pond was stocked with catfish.

Fish meals were often.

Music: David received a Gibson J45 guitar as a present when he graduated high school. He loved to play and sing gospel songs and, his favorite singer’s songs, George Jones. He taught several people how to play.

Patriotism: The ability to donate American, State and Christian flags were very important to David and he loved it.

Grandchildren: David and Gearoleen loved their children and grandchildren fiercely.

          He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Gearoleen Hendricks Gamble; grandson, Scott Sullivan; parents, Commodore Dewey Gamble and Lera Belle Campbell Gamble; three brothers, Willis Gamble, Doug Gamble, and Edcell Gamble; and six sisters, Mavis Gamble, Ezell Carr, Brucie Spade, Avis McCardle, Aileen Gamble, and Earnastibe Gamble.

          Survivors include his loving children, Carla Fraley of Collins, John Gamble and wife, Tina, of Sylvarena; and Tim Gamble and wife, Angie, of Soso; seven grandchildren, Dustin Sullivan of Mize, Logan Sullivan and wife, Jessica, of Mize, Hollie Martin and husband, Jimmy, of Sylvarena, Brooklyn Gamble of Sylvarena, Scarlette Gamble of Sylvarena, Tyler Gamble and wife, Ana, of Athens, Georgia, and Josie Gamble of Starkville; eight great-grandchildren, Waylon, Wesley, and Caroline Sullivan of Mize, Alaina and Cooper Martin of Sylvarena, and Gamble, Daphne, and JoJo Sullivan of Mize; one sister, Hilda Morse of Wilmer, Alabama.

          Pallbearers will be Dustin Sullivan, Logan Sullivan, Tyler Gamble, Jimmy Martin, Wayne Smith, and Lane Hendricks.  Honorary pallbearers will be Allen Morse, Bill Morse, Wayne Carr, and Gayrn Carr.
