Mendenhall- District Attorney Daniel C. Jones announced that on Friday, June 5, 2015, defendant Kristopher Durham, age 35, from Mendenhall, MS, the Special Circuit Court Judge Richard McKenzie refused to release Durham for the murder of Sheriff E.C. Mullins on March 20, 2001.

Durham had sought to be released from confinement at the Mississippi State Hospital at Whitfield. He had been confined there since he was found not guilty by reason of insanity after murdering Sheriff Mullins in March 2001. The Court ordered that Durham remain confined at Whitfield.

Representing the State of Mississippi in the discharge hearing was District Attorney Daniel C. Jones and representing Durham was Capital Defense Attorney Andre de Gruy. The hearing took place on May 11, 2015 at the Simpson County Courthouse and lasted approximately four hours.
