About 250 Mississippi College students will show off their dance moves to raise money for the Blair Batson Children’s Hospital.

The goal is to raise $40,000 to assist children and their families at the hospital, part of the University of Mississippi Medical Center. The six-hour dance marathon is set for November 15 at Anderson Hall on the Clinton campus. It begins at 6 p.m.

MC students like Isaac Davis of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa promoted the event at the school’s cafeteria on a rainy Monday.

“100 percent of the funds will go for hospital needs,” Davis said. “This will be a fun time in celebration of these kids and families.”

A MC junior, Davis donned his dancing shoes in the 2017 dance marathon that raised $23,312 for the state’s only children’s hospital. Tickets to Thursday’s activity are $15. Donations are tax deductible.

The Jackson medical facility serves thousands of children from across the state experiencing pediatric illnesses and injuries. The hospital offers everything from emergency care to specialized heart and cancer services for these young patients.

Batson Children’s Hospital treats about 150,000 children each year in more than 30 specialty areas, including newborn medicine.

Isaac Davis serves as the student director of the freshman leadership experience. Leaders with the Mississippi College program launched the dance marathon in 2016.

Officials at the University of Mississippi Medical Center applaud the students for their support of activities to enhance Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals.

“Mississippi College students have shown so much kindness and generosity towards Children’s of Mississippi and Batson Children’s Hospital,” says Jen Hospodor. She serves as director of community partnerships at the University of Mississippi Medical Center.

“Through this and other fundraising events, they are truly showing the spirit of giving,” Hospodor said. “And we are grateful for their continued support of the state’s only children’s hospital.”

MC students partnered with school administrators and UMMC officials to initiate their first dance marathon two years ago. Back then, a goal of $15,000 was established to assist the Blair E. Batson Children’s Hospital. The December 2016 event attracted a live DJ and special guests like Miss Mississippi Laura Lee Lewis. It was held at the A.E. Wood Coliseum.

The University of Mississippi became the first school in the state to kick off a dance marathon for the children’s hospital.

This Fall, Mississippi College students are spreading the word via Twitter and Facebook.
