With tear filled eyes, elementary students and faculty witnessed the homecoming of Phillip Holifield who has served 4 tours of duty in Iraq. He was returning from a 6 month deployment in Kuwait, today.
The Holifield twins, Ethan and Addison, were unaware of what Thursday’s assembly at SCA was about…they just followed the group…got in the stands…took their flags and started waving.
Elementary Headmaster Marney Walker stood before the students and asked for two volunteers…hands shot up…and pleas came forth…but as planned two first grade students, Ethan and Addison Holifield were chosen and escorted onto the gym floor.
The twins stood with flags in hand as “I’m Proud to be an American” began to play…the students in the stands began to shout “turn around”…”turn around”…and when Ethan and Addison did turn around what they saw was their father, Phillip walking onto the floor with outstretched arms.
Talking about a tearjerker, there were not many dry eyes in the SCA gym!
As Phillip wrapped his children in his arms with his wife Lindsay standing close, the crowd cheered and began to shout “USA.”
I’ve seen these scenes on TV before but I’ve never witnessed a homecoming quite like this!
Seeing the smiles and hearing the chants made everyone proud to be an American.
And Phillip, we are glad to have you back on American and SCA soil. (Sorry for the shaky video…emotional)
