COVID-19 Update

COVID-19 activity shows a sharp increase Most Mississippi counties now have high or medium COVID-19 activity.

Daily confirmed cases of COVID-19 reported to MSDH have continued to trend upward, and hospitalizations for COVID-19 have steadily risen as well, with 264 Mississippians currently hospitalized for COVID-19 as of June 27.

Seniors at greatest risk

While COVID-19 is affecting Mississippians of all ages, those aged 65 and over are at highest risk of death. Being fully vaccinated and current with any boosters is the best protection against serious illness.

Stay protected

  • Wear a mask in public places, including public transportation.
  • Have a home test kit ready. How to get free test kits
  • Get tested if you are ill. If you think you’ve been exposed, get tested as soon as you experience symptoms, or after 5 days without symptoms.
  • If you do become ill with COVID-19, talk to a doctor right away about treatment with Paxlovid to reduce the severity of illness, especially if you’re over 65 or have a chronic illness.

MSDH offers free COVID-19 testing around the state, and COVID-19 vaccinations and boosters are available at county health departments.
