In a rematch of the 2023 5A State Championship game, the Simpson Cougars traveled to Natchez this past Friday to battle the Adams Christian Rebels.
The Cougars, who were starting their 3rd different QB in as many games because of injury, were looking to get their 1st win of the young football season.
In a tightly contested battle, the Cougars defense caused 2 turnovers and had a season high 9 QB sacks but it wasn’t enough to overcome the lack of production offensively throughout the game.
Although the offense had some bright spots, including 2 touchdown passes from freshman QB Brady McKenney to senior WR Chanse Funchess, it wasn’t enough to propel the Cougars to a victory, as they drop a tough game on the road 28-14.
The Cougars (0-3) will return to the friendly confines of The Hole on Friday night looking to get their 1st win on the year vs East Rankin Academy.
