Copeland Steps Down as Beautification  Director

Evelyn Copeland with Keep Simpson County Beautiful met before the Board of Supervisors Tuesday, December 15, 2020 during their regular scheduled meeting.

Copleand named the new individuals that will be replacing her on the Beautification Committee. Copeland named Kathy McMillan as the Executive Director and Terrance Norwood will serve as Board President. Copeland is stepping down from her duties due to relocating outside the county. Copeland gave an update on the committee and how it has grown over the years. Copleand thanked the many sponsors that have aided with Keep Simpson County Beautiful and all would not  be possible without their help.

ASAP stated wait time at hospitals still continue to meet expectations. Simpson County transported 106 out of county this past month. Expect longer wait times for service due to hospitals in Mississippi being full and having to transport to other parts of state and out of state due to COVID.

The board approved to hire two employees for the road department as a laborer and pot hole patrol person.

Sheriff Mullins received permission to move Trent Weeks from part-time to full-time employee.

The board approved allowing the City of Magee access to the Solid Waste on Fridays for garbage disposal on a probational period.

The board granted permission to the City of Mendenhall to use the county voting machines for the 2021 municipal elections with the understanding the City of Mendenhall is be responsible for all cost associated with the use.

Below is a reminder of all future board meeting and holidays for the county.

  • Monday, January 4, 2020 – Regular Meeting
  • Friday, January 15, 20201 – Recessed Meeting
  • Monday, January 4, 2020 – Regular Meeting
  • Friday, January 15, 2020 – Recessed Meeting

Holidays: 

  • Christmas Holidays – Thursday & Friday, December 24 & 25, 2020
  • New Year’s Holiday – Thursday & Friday, December 31,2020 and January 1, 2021
  • Martin Luther King Jr./Robert E Lee Holiday – Monday, January 18, 2021.
  • President’s Day Holiday – Monday, February 15, 2021.

No further business meeting was adjourned.
