One day I was scrolling through Face Book and saw a video made by a Simpson Academy graduate…well, I decided I needed to check out what this “kid” was doing. I was very impressed with his song…his talent…and his presentation. I just decided I would message Colt (whom I did not know) and invite him to interview with MageeNews.com. About a week later, I received a note informing me he was coming to Simpson County Labor Day weekend. (Of course he can’t miss dove hunting…what good southern boy would not participate in this “holy” day.
Colt Barron blew me away and I am now one of his number one fans!
Colt was born in Baton Rouge, La but grew up in Braxton, MS. He received his first guitar for this 10th birthday and taught himself to play. He never had a lessons an does not read music!
Colt didn’t just stop with the guitar, he can play the piano and drums….and a bunch of other instruments! He won the Country Music Showdown for south Mississippi but chose not to compete in the state finals.
After graduating from Simpson Academy in 2015, Colt headed for Nashville in August of 2015….and we often say…the rest is history.
He started playing at Tootsies World Famous Orchid Lounge along with Rippy’s, Honky Tonk Central, and Tootsies in Panama City Beach.
Colt released his first EP (which is shorter in song number than a CD) in March of 2016. The EP went to #19 on ITunes charts and has sold in every state and 5 foreign countries. He wrote three of the songs on the EP.
He is currently working on a second album to be released in early 2017.
Colt has played with Jeff Bates, Montgomery Gentry, Travis Tritt, The Bellamy Brothers and LoCash.
Colt enjoys hunting, fishing, cooking, and LSU football.
I must tell ya’ll that when Colt came to MageeNews.com studio, he did not have a guitar in his hand! I nearly panicked. I wanted to hear him play. When I said “where’s your guitar…he said where’s your piano”…well that would be a “not in my house”…but suddenly I remembered that my oldest son Dickey had a guitar in the house which the grandchildren and anyone who visits plays with….I told Colt I had no idea if the guitar even had all the strings. But thank goodness the guitar had all its string and actually turned out to be a good guitar that I had purchased for Dickey one year from Music City in Magee. Once he started playing…we would not let him stop. Soon we moved to my front porch and I started livestreaming his “concert.” I was impressed with the hits, visits, and likes he got in just the few minutes we were on air.
Colt is talented…what he needs from us is a fan base. “So much is now decided by fan base,” stated Colt; therefore, we’ve all got to search for him on FB, ITunes, Pandora, all music outlets.
Hey, I think I’ve just about persuaded him to come to Magee in March of 2017 and play a concert…wouldn’t that be neat!
Thanks Colt for thinking enough of a website in Magee, MS to assist in making you famous!
Check MageeNews.com FB page for some of the “porch playing.” The boy has got talent!
