During the Magee Board of Aldermen meeting on June 20, 2023, a culvert on Colonial Drive was declared an emergency due to damage from “wear and tear.” The culvert in question is estimated to be around 50 years old and creates a dangerous situation in the neighborhood.

“There’s only one way in and one way out on that street,” said Alderman Mark Grubbs.

City Superintendent Tim Bray said, “We’re going to have to build a bypass road.”

The plan to repair the culvert on Colonial Drive is expected to cost right around $145,000.

Brett Duncan, CPA, asked, “Y’all wanna talk about how we’re going to fund it?”

He then reminded the board of money available from HR 1353, which was set aside for infrastructure in the amount of $150,000.

“The project will not be funded out of the tax levy,” Duncan explained.

After a first from Mark Grubbs and a second from Sammie Tebo, the project was approved unanimously.
