SAN ANTONIO, Texas- Copiah-Lincoln Community College’s Nu Kappa Chapter of Phi Beta Lambda placed nationally in multiple events at the National Leadership Conference (NLC) held in San Antonio, Texas. Ten students represented the Nu Kappa Chapter with nine events to compete in. The annual conference highlights outstanding college students in business and leadership roles.
Jasmine King of Wesson placed second in Sales Presentation, the highest a Co-Lin student has ever finished in this category. Austin Hunt of Mount Olive and Corbin Lester of Ruth placed tenth in Economic Analysis and Decision Making category. Corbin Lester also placed ninth in the Global Analysis and Decision Making event. The team of Adam Martinez of Brookhaven, Jenner McInnis of McComb and Kristyn Merritt of Natchez placed sixth in Integrated Marketing Campaign. Madison McHenry of Jayess, JD Boykin and Michael Haynes Hutson, both of Brookhaven, placed in the top 15 in Management Analysis and Decision Making. Madison McHenry also placed ninth in the Statistical Analysis.
Chapter advisors are Richard Baker and Heather Martin. Baker received the Mississippi Outstanding Advisor of the Year award.
PBL is a non-profit educational association for students preparing for careers in business, entrepreneurial or business-related fields. The association prepares students for employment by promoting competent, aggressive business leadership, increasing understanding of American free enterprise, establishing career goals, encouraging scholarship, promoting efficient money management, and developing character and self-confidence. Co-curricular activities encourage career development, civic service, economic education, community involvement and business advocacy. Partnerships are formed with Chambers of Commerce, local businesses, industries, and government. An extensive skills competitions program is offered to challenge members in the academic pursuits. It is the collegiate counterpart of the high school’s Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA). PBL has over 800 chapters and approximately 17,000 members on community and senior college campuses nationwide, organized in all 50 states and American provinces. It is the nation’s largest and oldest student business organization. Mississippi has over 40 chapters and approximately 1,000 members.
