Co-Lin’s Gambrell, Smith selected for HEADWAE honors

JACKSON – Copiah-Lincoln Community College Business Technology Instructor Laurie Gambrell of Taylorsville and student Charlette Sue Smith of Mendenhall were selected Copiah-Lincoln Community College’s HEADWAE (Higher Education Appreciation Day – Working for Academic Excellence) honorees for the 2016–2017.
They were honored along with several other outstanding faculty members and students from 36 Mississippi public and private universities and colleges by HEADWAE in part for their individual and academic achievements as an educational instructor and student.
On Appreciation Day, the honorees are invited to tour the State Capitol and are welcomed by the Lieutenant Governor as they are recognized in each chamber of the Legislature. The goal of the Appreciation Day is to encourage excellence among those involved in higher education as a way to further leadership, increase knowledge and promote good citizens for today and the future.
HEADWAE was established in 1988 by legislative resolution to honor individual academic achievement and the overall contribution of the state’s public and private institutions of higher learning.
Gambrell has been a member of the Co-Lin faculty for six years. She received her bachelor of science degree in mathematics from Mississippi College and her master’s degree in technical and occupational education from the University of Southern Mississippi. Gambrell’s honors and awards include the Academic Achievement Award, USM College of Education and Psychology, Co-Lin Simpson County Center’s Faculty/Staff Member of the Year, and the Howell C. Garner High Performance Award. She is a member of the Phi Beta Lambda Professional Division and has certifications in Microsoft Office Master Specialist, IC3, CompTIA Strata IT Fundamentals, and is a QuickBooks Certified User.
She and her husband, Don, are the parents of two children, Matthew Gambrell and Kelly (Matthew) Grant. They have four grandchildren, Addison, Caleb, Blythe, and Lincoln Grant.
Smith is a sophomore administrative office technology major. Her goal is to obtain a job that will allow her to assist others. She is a member of Phi Theta Kappa and was selected to Who’s Who Among Students in American Junior Colleges. Smith is the daughter of Charlotte Miller of Mendenhall.
