WESSON – Copiah-Lincoln Community College announced today that it was named one of the top schools in the nation for successfully transferring students from community college to university and preparing students for the workforce. Out of 513 public two-year institutions, Co-Lin was the No. 1 ranked community college in Mississippi and No.17 in the nation.

The study showed that 63 percent of students who attended Co-Lin either earned an Associate Degree or transferred to a four-year college/university.

“Affordability, access, and student success are all top priorities at Co-Lin,” said Co-Lin President Dr. Jane G. Hulon. “We are proud of our students and the work of Co-Lin employees who help guide our students toward completion and advancement to the next level whether it be transferring to a university or entering the workforce. It is gratifying to receive a national recognition that reflects the exceptional work of our students, faculty, and staff.”

The rankings, published by Lending Tree’s Student Loan Hero, were focused on transfer-out and graduation rates of students attending public two-year schools. The findings were based on data provided by the Department of Education’s Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System. The schools were ranked by the combined number of students who either graduated or transferred out within three years of matriculation.

The top 50 schools were described as “the very best [community colleges] we found at preparing their students for the next step, whether that’s transferring to a four-year school or turning an associate’s degree into a budding career.”

This is the third recognition of this nature that Co-Lin has received in 2019, as the college was recognized earlier this year for having the highest graduation rate of all 15 community colleges in Mississippi, and recently received the Halbrook award for graduating the most student-athletes.
