I am Cliff Brown. I am the no nonsense conservative Republican candidate for Senate district 35.
I do not have a long political pedigree. My father was just an ordinary man who worked at Magna Tech. I do not have a long list of clubs that I have joined or a long list of positions that I was appointed to. I am a member of a few organizations which do good work, but I seldom make a show of my involvement in them. I do my most of my good works with out expecting personal glory, but there are times when I have to step into the light to get things done. I am an endowment member of The National Rifle Association, a life member of Gun Owners of America and a member of National Association for Gun Rights. I am a member of the Magee Chamber of Commerce. I am a member of my local church.
I was born in Brandon and raised in the Thomasville Community near McLaurin School. I still live in a remodeled house that was once my grandfather’s business. My house is where he once had his Sinclair gas station, general store and grist mill. I only lived in one house from my birth until I moved off to Starkville, but because of government gerrymandering of school zones, I attended 3 different schools. I went to Brandon Elementary until the school of your choice era ended and was then zoned into McLaurin. At that time McLaurin was only a nine year school so I graduated at Florence High School.
I graduated from Hinds Jr. College with an AS in pre veterinary medicine, but decided to not attend vet school. At Mississippi State University, I majored for a while in animal science then changed my major to agricultural journalism. I dropped out of college in my senior year to join the US Air Force.
While stationed at Travis AFB in the San Francisco Bay Area, I got involved in a local Southern Baptist Church. I meet my wife Jade while working in that church. She has one son, Dennis Adams, and I have one daughter from a previous marriage, Jessica Sailor. My wife and I each have two grandchildren.
Not long after returning to Mississippi and settling down in my grandfather’s old store, my wife and I built our own business. Yes, we built Jade’s Beauty Supplies & Fashions ourselves with no government help. We found a group of customers who demanded a line of products and knew we could find the supply to meet that demand. We knew that the crime rate was low compared to other places that we investigated. We were not recruited into Magee, but did the research ourselves and saw it as a good place to build. The largest trouble we had was getting financing, because we did not fit the models that any bank was looking for and we did not fit into any government subsidy program. Our business plan showed mathematically that we were on a sound footing, but we were doing something that had never before been done exactly like we were doing it. We did not buy a franchise or take over an established business. We were starting an unusual type of business from scratch. The only way we could get a business start up loan was to risk our future inheritance as collateral, but we had enough faith in what we were doing that we did not see it as a risk.
My wife and I are both very active in Dry Creek Baptist Church. There are two churches in this area named Dry Creek. We are active in the one near Star. My father and grandfather were both deacons in that church and my mother was the pianist for many years. My wife and I both sing in the choir and I teach a young adult Sunday school class.
If elected, I will serve as an unashamed Christian conservative. I believe in separating the promotion of church from my duties as a government official, but there is no way I could ever separate my Christian beliefs from my decision making. I believe in the sanctity of human life and consider abortion to be evil. I believe that marriage can only involve one man and one woman. I believe in personal responsibility, which causes me to believe that people who hard work and make wise decisions should be able to keep the fruits of their labor. Believing in personal responsibility also causes me to believe that people who do crimes must do the time. I believe that the second amendment guarantees the right of citizens to keep and bare arms. I believe that citizens have the right to use deadly force if necessary to defend themselves, their property and their neighbors. I believe that education is too important to use as a laboratory for social experiments or as a political tool.
A lot of people know that I have run for this same office before. I ran then as a way to promote some solid ideas and am glad to say that some of those ideas were accepted by other politicians. Now I am running to win so I can take a direct part in getting some things done and getting a lot of crap blocked from becoming law.
