The cost of water in the City of Magee will be rising by $10 October 1, 2023.  The increase in the bill is due to approximately $200,00 worth of unexpected expenses last year in the water department.  To balance the water budget, the increase is necessary.  There is no change in the sewer fee.

Much of the water infrastructure is old…old pipes…old lines…old.  Repairs are a continuous costly problem.

At plant 1 we will be replacing the 2 aerators that begin the treatment process at plant 1, the existing aerators are 50+ years and at the end of their useful life. The control panel at the plant is outdated and will be replaced along with replacing aged wiring and conduit. The new control panel will allow for a more dependable and improved control system for all of plant 1. We will also be doing general cleaning and painting that is needed to maintain the integrity of the existing plant equipment. As an alternate item, replacing the 2 service pumps that feed the distribution system from the plant will be considered for replacement.

Also something to keep in mind, replacement of the water meters with new radio read meters is most likely going to produce increased water billing as the existing meters are likely not reading accurately due to age. This project will also ensure that all connections are properly metered and will be getting billed properly. Replacing the meters is something that is part of the MCWI project scope.

In the words of former Mayor Jimmy Clyde, “more water lines burst during the summer than the winter.”  How wild is that!  (And a true statement!)
