The board heard from several concerned citizens regarding a zoning matter in their neighborhood. Rene O’Cain Craft spoke before the board with concerns of a drug rehabilitation housing center being located in their neighbor, especially an area that  houses 6 widows. The group is not questioning the need for the facility just the location.  The board heard from citizens Beth Moore, Brent Walker, Sherrie McCall along with O’Cain. The board took the information under advisement and deemed this a zoning matter which requires a meeting before the zoning board. The zoning board meets next week and will see what or if anything can be accomplished.

Another concerned citizen met before the board with issues regarding the treatment of her son by the police department. Anna Rushing stated her son David was stopped for a tail light that was out on his vehicle. The incident took place early morning around 3:30 a.m. The son was traveling with his son for a fishing trip. The police stopped the vehicle and wanted to search. The defendant, David Rushing, refused search but agreed to K-9 search. Rushing claims police were unprofessional and rude. MS Rushing states after further investigation neither police officer were wearing their body cameras. Ms Rushing spoke with Chief of Police Shane Little and was not pleased with his professionalism. The board advised that Mr. Little was on vacation and not present. The Rushings would like to hear from the chief  concerning the issue. Ms. Rushing agreed to the request.

Candidate Albert Turnage for Chancery Judge, Post 1 met before the board introducing himself and asking for consideration in the upcoming election.

Jimmy Zila advised the splash pad is closed for the next two weeks due to not working. A part has been order for replacement but will not arrive for approximately two weeks. The city will advise when pad is open and in operation.

Melinda Green came before the board asking permission for Eric (last name not given) to volunteer his time to help paint the jail. The board agreed to accept the volunteer work.

Airport Manager Ashley Steele presented a bid to the board for the Jet A. This was the only bid that was received. The amount of quote was $22,377.91. The Jet A tank has to be fixed due to previous grant that was received. The board approved the quote.

The board approved  a hearing in 30 days for cleanup of property location 601 1st Street SE. The site is considered a violation of zoning, menace to public health and safety. The hearing is set for September 20, 2022.

The dog pound was a topic of discussion with the overall need for larger pens. Anyone who would like to volunteer to donate any items would be appreciated. Contact City Hall for details.
