Christmas ornaments depicting crosses, manger scenes, the Magnolia State and Santa Claus are usually big sellers at Mississippi College.
MC art education students will design the popular items on sale from November 28 through December 2 on the Clinton campus.
Ornaments are priced at $5 each. And that’s a pretty affordable stocking stuffer for customers shopping at the Christian university’s cafeteria. The week-long sale is open to the entire MC family as well as the Clinton/Jackson community.
Proceeds generated from the 7th annual sale will help MC students with expenses to attend the National Art Education Association convention. The theme of the 70th annual meeting in New York City March 2-4 is “The Challenge of Change.” Over 1,000 workshops are planned in the Big Apple for students and educators from around the nation.
Art professor Stephanie Busbea, faculty advisor to the Mississippi College student chapter, hopes this year’s sale surpasses the successful event in 2015.
Last year, art education students crafted 250 ornaments, including about 100 Mississippi College arrowheads. The total includes 50 crosses plus 50 owls and doves. The students also sold ceramic pieces for $10 each.
Over the years, the MC students created ornaments featuring dinosaurs and Disney cartoon characters.
Last year’s sale at Mississippi College produced $667.
Ornaments showing the shape of Mississippi were hot items with buyers as the Christmas holidays neared a year ago.
Hours for the sale, just in time for Christmas, are 11 a.m. through 2 p.m. and 5-7 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Ornaments will be up for grabs for shoppers from 11 a.m. through 2 p.m. on Friday December 2.
