To the Residents of Senate District 35: My name is Chris Caughman and I am running as a Republican for the Senate District 35 seat in the Mississippi Legislature. I am a lifelong resident of Mendenhall and I am married to Melissa Hilton Caughman formerly of D’Lo. We have three children, Cade 18 a student at Copiah-Lincoln Community College in Wesson, Abby 15, and Bryce 14, both students at Simpson County Academy. I have always had a desire to serve our community and State in a position such as this one and continue the conservative leadership that Senator Perry Lee has shown over the last 12 years.caughman3

I am a 1985 graduate of Simpson County Academy, a 1987 graduate of Copiah-Lincoln Community College, and a 1989 graduate of Belhaven College where I received my BA in History. Upon graduating college I taught school and coached varsity basketball for ten years at three different schools, Hillcrest Christian School, East Rankin Academy, and Simpson County Academy. In 1999 I took a job as a loan officer with Trustmark National Bank in Magee and worked there for five years. In 2003 I was hired by Peoples Bank and have worked there for the last twelve years in Magee and Mendenhall serving as a commercial lender and also on the management team of the bank. During my time as a banker I have graduated from several banking schools, the Ole Miss School of Banking, the LSU Graduate School of Banking, the Southeastern School of Commercial Lending at Vanderbilt, and also the SMU Southwest Commercial School of Banking.

I have served our community on many boards and leadership organizations over the last twenty years. I have served as President of the Magee Lions Club, President of the Simpson County Academy school board, President of the Mendenhall Chamber of Commerce, and also President of the Simpson County Economic Foundation Board. I have also served on the Magee Chamber of Commerce Board, the Simpson County YMCA Board, and the Simpson County Ducks Unlimited Committee. Today I still serve on the Simpson County Youth Leadership Executive Committee and the Copiah-Lincoln Community College Foundation Board.ChrisCaughman1

Over the last few years I believe that our state is headed in the right direction. We have conservative leaders in most positions of State government and they have done an outstanding job of balancing our state budget and putting away dollars in a rainy day fund. I would like to be a part of that team that continues moving Mississippi in a positive, conservative manner. There are 4 conservative principles that I believe strongly in and am basing my campaign on and they are: 1. Smaller/less intrusive government 2. Less regulation in the private sector 3. Lower or stable taxes 4. Individual freedom and responsibility. I hope to represent our district with these values in mind and take each one of them to heart in every decision I make. I want to see all our counties in District 35 continue to grow and prosper economically and I promise to work with all local officials and leaders when called upon and will make myself available to all of my constituents of the district as well. Senate District 35 is comprised of all of Simpson County, the southern one third of Rankin County, and Crystal Springs East voting precinct in Copiah County. Your vote and support will be greatly appreciated.
