Mr. Charles Lenny Rowry, son of the late Sarah and Lenny Rowry was born on October 25, 1931 in Geiger, Alabama. He was the second child of five from this union. He attended the Greymount School of Birmingham, Alabama. He professed his faith in Jesus Christ and was a member of Peach Baptist Church, where he was baptized at an early age. Charles moved to Chicago, Illinois in 1952, with pursuits of a better life.

Charles was united in holy matrimony to Mary Alice Rowry in July of 1954, who preceded him in death. Together they had an unbreakable bond and five children. Later in life, he met Mary-Ann Griffith, and formed a life partnership. They had two children from this bond.

Charles was a hard-working man, who dedicated 27 years of loyalty to Demuth Steel in Schiller Park, Illinois. Charles was a very outgoing man, that loved and treasured his family.  He was a wonderful son, brother, uncle, father, and grandfather.  Charles was adored and admired by all. He quietly departed this life Monday, July 27, 2020 in Jackson, Mississippi. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, his brothers L.B. Rowry and Joe Rowry, his sister Sarah Jones, two daughters Veronica Rowry and Gwendolyn Rowry, two sons Charles “Chuck” Rowry and Cedric Griffith, his grandson Byron Edingburg, his great-grandson DeShaun Washington, and his great-granddaughter Serinity Rowry.

His loving life will forever be cherished in the lives of  his family: His Brother: Andrew Rowry of Chicago, IL; His Partner: Mary-Ann Griffith of Magee, MS; Five Daughters: Rhonda Rowry (Eric) of Chicago, IL, Malissa (Keith) Price of Mt. Olive, MS, Tanya (Derrick) Rowry of Round Lake, IL, Krista Rowry-Shaw of Magee, MS, and Patricia Armstead of Chicago, IL; One Son: Carl Rowry of Chicago, IL; Twenty-Seven Grandchildren: Fatonya Rowry of Chicago, IL, Antwone Rowry of Chicago, IL, Sharlanese Rowry of Chicago, IL, Stacy Rowry of Chicago, IL, Bruce King of Chicago, IL, Charles King of Chicago, IL, Shun King of Chicago, IL, Jason King of Chicago, IL, Rena King of Chicago, IL, Keith Rowry of Chicago, IL, Nikita Freeman of St. Louis, MO, Charles Rowry-Williams of Round Lake, IL, Stephanie Champion of Memphis, TN, Alexis Williams of Round Lake, IL, Kelley Williams of Round Lake, IL, Lindsay Woofin of Chicago, IL, Torri Griffith of Chicago, IL, Alanna Meeks of San Diego, CA, Makeeta Armstead of Chicago, IL, Terrell Armstead of Chicago, IL, Timothy Armstead of Chicago, IL, Damien Armstead of Chicago, IL, Devon Armstead of Chicago, IL, Terrance Armstead of Chicago, IL, Kerry Armstead of Chicago, IL, E’niya Rowry of Magee, MS, and Kynede Rowry of Magee, MS; Fifty Great-Grandchildren including one special great-grandson: Nathaniel Floyd of Chicago, IL; Fourteen Great Great-Grandchildren; and a host of devoted nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and friends.

 

The family will have a private memorial service.

Arrangements are entrusted with Tutor Funeral Home of Magee.
