The Magee Chamber recognized the Star Student and Teacher from Magee High School and Simpson County Academy during their annual Chamber Banquet Thursday, March 12, 2020.

Star Student from Magee High School is Emily Reed.

Emily is the 17 year old daughter of Lisa Reed and Steven Reed of Magee.
She has lived in Magee all of her life. She is an active member of First Baptist Church and has also enjoyed working at Dairy Queen for the past two years.
When asked how she would describe her years at Magee high, she quickly said “My years at MHS have been some of the best years of my life.  We are a family. No matter what, when we need to pull together, we do.”
While at Magee,  she has been an active member of the Bible Club, Beta Club, student council, Science Club and the newly formed Math Honor Society.  She was inducted into the Science National Honor Society and the National Honor Society in 10th grade. She enjoyed being a member of the Simpson County Youth Leadership Council in 11th grade.  Emily has received the Who’s Who award for Best School Spirit, the Citizenship award, Most Talented and Most Likely to Succeed.  She has been a Superintendent’s Scholar all four years and has a current 4.0 GPA. Emily scored a 28 on her ACT. She is the Student Body President of MHS this year after serving as Class President during her sophomore and junior years.  She is the Section Captain for the saxophone section in the MHS Band.  While in the band, she has played the mallets, the bass drum and the saxophone.  She also plays the piano and enjoys playing for the youth worship band at church.
Emily loves to travel and has a goal of visiting all 50 states by time she turns 21.  (She’s getting pretty close!  Currently stands at 30) Her dream trip is to visit Pompeii, Italy.  She is fascinated by the story of Pompeii.  Emily also enjoys mission trips with her church, spending time with her friends, playing music and attending concerts.
Emily plans to attend college at either USM or Mississippi State in the fall with a major in social work.  She hopes to use her job as a way to help others and make their lives better.
Emily has chosen Amanda Sumrall as her Star Teacher. Emily chose Ms Sumrall because she has inspired her to become a better musician, student, and person. Mrs. Sumrall is the band director for Magee High School. Sumrall is a native of Greenville, AL, but she currently resides in Sumrall, MS with her husband Brad, and three children Kaden Rhys, Eva-Kayt, and Arwyn Grey. She attended Jones Community Junior College and was a member of the Maroon Typhoon Marching Band in 2002 and 2003. Later she finished her Bachelor of General Studies with an emphasis in Music in 2013 from William Carey University, as well as earning her Master of Music Education Degree in August of 2017. She began her teaching career as an assistant for marching band at West Marion in 2014, at Tylertown High School in 2015, then Lamar Christian School in 2016 before coming to Magee High School. This is Mrs. Sumrall’s 3rd year as the high school band director and general music teacher.
Star Student and Teacher from Simpson County Academy were not able to attend Chamber banquet.
Emily Davis is Star Student for Simpson County Academy. Smily scored a 34 on her ACT. Smily currently has a 4.0 GPA. Emily plans to attend William Carey University and major in Business! Emily has chosen Amy McWilliams as her Star Teacher.
