For this part of this series, I, Ian Cowart, would like to focus on Magee Chamber of Commerce Board of Director, Scott Barnes.

Scott Barnes is an employee of Priority One Bank and was elected to the Chamber Board of Directors this past year. I went to visit Scott a few days after I was elected President to get to know him better. Until then, Scott and I did not know each other. I asked Scott very frankly to please trust in me as the President and I promised him I would give my 100% in this role. Scott looked me in the eyes and said, “Ian, if you give your 100 percent, then I will give you 100 percent”.

Once the year kicked off with our first event, “Tea in the Gardens”, I knew Scott meant exactly what he said. Scott started giving the Chamber 100 percent straight out of the gate. Scott was up bright and early and was one of the first board members at the Tea helping out. It did not matter what the task was, Scott showed up and bent over backwards to get things done. Scott showed up and worked hard at the pageant this year as well.

I also want to mention that Scott was in charge of the Car Show Classic at this year’s Crazy Day Fall Festival. Scott didn’t even have to be at Crazy Day at 4:30 am since he was in charge of the Car Show. In true Scott fashion, he was there bright and early with the rest of us. Scott worked his butt off!

Scott had flyers made for the Car Show and took time out of his personal life to spread the word. I want to commend Scott for his efforts in this because he really pulled out all the stops to make the Car Show happen. I will admit that I feel terrible about the turn out. This has nothing to do with Scott, but the weather kept a lot of participants away. Due to the very wet and cold conditions that morning, most classic car owners did not want to put their cars in the contest. I can say this with absolute certainty, with the amount of effort Scott put into this, we would have had 50 to 60 cars if the weather was more suitable.

I really can’t say enough about the work ethic of this guy. I know that if there is ever anything needed, no matter what it is, Mr. Barnes is going to show up and give it his all. Scott has contributed very valuable and awesome ideas at all of our board meetings. Scott is also one of the most genuine and dependable guys I have ever met. Anything that Scott says, you can take it to the bank. Looking back on the year, Scott has only missed about 1 meeting and has been present for all the events. I truly believe that Scott Barnes has the best interest for Magee in his heart.

Thank you Scott for all that you do for the Chamber and the City of Magee.
