On this part of this series, I, Ian Cowart, want to focus on Magee Chamber of Commerce Board of Director, Erica Smith.

Erica was elected on the board the same time that I was back in 2016. Much like Scott, I had no idea who Erica was until the Chamber. Since I’ve been President, I have had the chance to get to know her a little bit better. I really appreciate Erica because she has been a huge supporter of me ever since I was elected. After I was put in this position, I wasn’t sure if I’d have the support from the board or not. I called Erica not long after I received this role, just too kind of let her know my vision for the year. I was shocked to hear that she had a genuine belief in me. This coming from someone I barely knew really boosted my morale.

I can say that there is a humbling down to earthiness about this woman. Erica has shown up to every single event and has served in whatever capacity she was called to do. Erica has not been able to be at every meeting this year, but that is of no fault of her own. Erica had started a new job this year that directed her obligations out of town. Just because she couldn’t be at every meeting did not mean she wasn’t a hardworking and valued member of this awesome board. Erica served at every single event the chamber hosted. Erica’s efforts were especially appreciated during the time of the Pageant. If I tried to do what she did with the decorating, I would have been impeached.

When I say that Ms. Smith is genuine and down to earth, I mean every single word. I know that if I need a true honest opinion or a piece of humble pie, Erica will give it to me. There is something to be said for a person who you can say, what you see is what you get. That is a truly refreshing quality in a person and a board member.

I know that for the remainder of her term, Erica will continue to give her all. I speak for the entire board when I say that we do miss having her at our meetings. Regardless of her absence, Erica still contributes her heart and soul to the Chamber and City of Magee. Because of her new job, Erica could have dropped out of the chamber and saved herself from sacrificing her weekends to chamber events. You know this woman truly cares for this great city when she, under no obligation, still contributes in the capacity that she does.

Thank you Erica for all that you do for the Chamber and the City of Magee.
