Bonnie Yates, loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend, met Jesus face to face on Friday, August 27, 2021 after following Him faithfully all her life.
Bonnie was born on February 7, 1949 to Lester and Emliss Wallace. She was married to Vondell Yates, the love of her life, for almost 50 years. She leaves two daughters and their husbands, Stacy and Nolan Bishop and Amanda and Chris Sullivan, all of Magee. She was blessed with three granddaughters, which she lovingly referred to as the “grand-girls”. Alexis Bishop Davis (husband, Trevor) Mercy Rain Bishop and Adelle Sullivan were her pride and joy and she would gladly tell you all about them. She also leaves one great grandson, Reece Sullivan.
She is also survived by four sisters: Catherine Blackwell, Wanda (Johnny) Goodson, Deborah (Slick) Lowery, Regeana Weeks, and sister-in-law, Lavern Wallace. She also leaves three brothers: Buster (Ruth) Wallace, Tony (Teresa) Wallace, Devon Wallace and brother-in-law, Otha Lee Dennis. Along with these she leaves the Yates family, that she has always loved as brothers and sister. She also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, a loving church family and a host of friends.
She was welcomed home by her parents, two sisters; Serlena Dennis and Margaret Williamson and one brother Bradford Wallace.
Bonnie was a very active member of Siloam Baptist Church, where she served in many ways but her favorite was teaching mission classes, such as GA’s, Mission Friends and Children in Action. She not only taught about sharing God’s love through missions, she lived it every day. She was often found volunteering for Women’s Hope with her friends that she loved so much or packing shoe boxes for Operation Christmas Child.
Besides serving others, she also enjoyed traveling with her husband and other family members. She especially loved her yearly trip to Pigeon Forge with the Grand-girls. While at home, she enjoyed reading, watching tv and beating anyone in a good board or card game.
Her life will be celebrated in a homegoing service on Sunday, August 29th at 3 p.m. at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home in Magee, Mississippi. A visitation will begin at 1 p.m. She will be laid to rest at Siloam Baptist Church in Magee. The service will be officiated by Bro. Raymond Jeffcoat and Nolan Bishop.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Women’s Hope or Operation Christmas Child.
