Bobby Alton Mooney Sr.
(September 18, 1947 – January 24, 2022)
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 27, 2022 at the Collins Civic Center for Bobby Alton Mooney Sr., 74 of Collins, who passed away on Monday, January 24, 2022 at his residence.
Reverend Gary Roberts and Reverend Dennis Campbell will officiate at the services with interment to follow in the Williamsburg Baptist Church Cemetery in Collins. Special music will be provided by his daughter-in-law, Vicki Magee Mooney. Billy M. King-Colonial Chapel Funeral Home in Collins will be in charge of the arrangements.
The family will receive guests from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 27, 2022 at the Collins Civic Center, 3220 U.S. Highway 49, Collins, Mississippi, 39428
Pallbearers will be Blake Bullock, Jake Sundermann, Paul Mooney, Robert Mooney, Henry Dennis, Joey Ponder, Bob Shoemake, and Robert “Fats” Thompson. Honorary pallbearers will be the current and past employees of the City of Collins, and the owners and staff of Colonial Chapel Funeral Homes.
Bobby was born on September 18, 1947, in Collins, Mississippi to Marion Alton Mooney and Dorothy Lee Mooney. Bobby started his career with the City of Collins in the electrical department in 1975, and continued on being elected as Alderman in 1979. He held this office for forty-two years until his recent retirement in June of 2021. Bobby played a huge role in the growth and development of the city as well as the state during his tenure. He leaves a legacy as a leader in the community who was fair to everyone and treated them equally. His strong leadership lead him to be a certified Municipal Official with the Mississippi Municipal League serving on the Board of Directors for nine years. Bobby was inducted into the Mississippi Municipal Hall of Fame in 2017.
Bobby continued to meet the needs of his community by working as an assistant funeral director for Billy M. King-Colonial Chapel Funeral Home for nearly thirty years. His compassion and love brought peace and comfort to the grieving families. Bobby was a member of the Collins Assembly of God Church. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Marion Alton Mooney and Dorothy Lee Mooney.
Survivors include two sons, Bobby Wayne Mooney, and his wife, Vicki and Billy Mack Mooney, and his wife, Lisa, all of Collins; his dear friend and mother of his children, Nancy Woods of Collins; six grandchildren, Lorie and Blake, Lindsey and Jake, Gabby and Jeff, Brooklyn, Kaylee and Colton; four great-grandchildren, Bella, Ledger, Holden, and Hank; three brothers, Paul Mooney and Don Mooney, and his wife, Kathy, all of Collins, and Mike Mooney, and his wife Judy of Brandon; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other family members.
