The Scriptural passage selected for today is found in Ecclesiastes 5:18: “I realized that it is good and proper for a man to eat and drink, and to find satisfaction in his toilsome labor under the sun during the few days of life God has given him.” The Book of Ecclesiastes is generally ascribed to King Solomon and was likely written during his final years. Here, he heartily recommends hard work for man in order to provide food and drink for himself and his family. In many civilizations, one does not eat unless he works, indulging in manual labor. There is great personal satisfaction and discipline derived from producing a product or completing a task. Let us be found to be a workman worthy of his hire and not a sluggard, a wastrel, or an infidel. Amen!
