Mayor Dale Berry called the September 20, 2022 meeting to order. Alderman Patrick Brown opened with prayer.
Robert Pierce, newly appointed alderman for Ward 2, gave a report concerning the situation with the property on 5th Street. Pierce informed those in attendance that the house in question will not be considered a half-way house. According to Pierce, the house is rental property owned by New Life Church. Susan Walker, representing the Downtown Magee Homeowner District, explained she believes the zoning code does not allow this type house in an R1 zone.
Chairman of the Zoning Department Darnell Moffett reported map discrepancy was discovered and is working with the CMMPD to resolve . 4 sign violations have been addressed.
Shane Steele was in court Tuesday morning for several property issues. The judge heard the cases and issued fines or continued or warrants.
The Board approved two resolutions for signage by Mayor Dale Berry and City Clerk Jon Styron. One resolution is permission to seek a grant for the old Magee Elementary School. The grant is part of the 16th Round of the Community Heritage Preservation Grant Program. The other resolution was permission to pursue a grant for the city of Magee from MDOT. Sue Honea is applying for this grant which will allow a sidewalk to be built from Raleigh Road to 1st Street.
Ashley Steele presented the Airport report. According to Steele, items to be addressed by the FAA are continuing to be met.
Brett Duncan of Prince CPA informed the board that at this time, the City if $40,000 under budget. The new budget goes into affect October 1, 2022.
The meeting was adjourned for the board to go into executive session.
