Board Deems Property Menace to Health

The Magee Board of Alderman meeting opened with a public hearing on 158 Simpson Hwy 149 to determine whether the parcel of land is a menace to public health, safety, and/or welfare of the community. Business owner, Raymond Albert Booth, was not present for the hearing. The board approved to move forward with the cleanup of the property due to the condition of the property and being a menace to the public health of the community.

Mayor Dale Berry reminded citizens City Hall would be closed for Memorial Day Holiday, Monday, May 30, 2022. There will be no garbage collection for that Monday. Garbage schedule that week will be Monday’s route will be collected Tuesday and Tuesday’s route will be collected Wednesday. The remaining of the week will run as scheduled. City Hall will be closed Monday, July 4, 2022 in observance of Independence Day. The city will follow the same garbage collection that week as Memorial Day week.

The July Board of Alderman meeting has been moved to July 7, 2022 due to holiday and time frame of preparing packets.

Mayor Dale Berry advised he met with the Keep Magee Beautiful Committee. The committee had researched options for playground equipment for the City Park. The committee is looking at projects that could run several hundred thousands of dollars. Mayor Berry advised the board there were playground equipment available for purchase at Home Depot for only $27,000 and asked the board to look at those options.

Andy Baeurele, a senior at Magee High School and concerned citizen, met before the board to discuss the condition of McNair Springs Park. Baeurele took upon himself to clean the ditches and surrounding area. The bridge is missing a guard rail. Andy advised the board and Mayor of the needed repairs. The board took his request under advisement.

Michael Andrews the Animal Control Officer was granted permission to attend an Animal Control School at the cost of $650.00.

The Fire Department requested permission to move forward with the installation of the donated radio tower.

Phillip Magee advised the board to consider adopting an ordinance for portable building  used for residential purposes. Magee provided copies of ordinance from other cities for the board to consider. The board took the information under advisement.

The City of Magee agreed to enter into an agreement with Rebel Services with an annual contract for service, inspection of tanks, calibrating and filter changing at the airport. The cost of the contract is $4,190.21.

John Ready and Austin Tanner were approved as new fire department candidates.

The mosquito spraying will begin spraying twice a week instead of once.

The public works department was approved to work 2 Saturdays out of the month with a 5 man crew to catch up on work and projects.

Shane Steele brought a property of concern back before the board located at 807 5th Ave SE. The previous owners were asked to clean the property. The property has not changed hands to another family owner and still under same needs.
