Betty Joyce (Statum) Hodge

JANUARY 5, 1933 – SEPTEMBER 11, 2020

Betty Joyce Statum Hodge, 87, of Moody, Alabama, formerly of Magee, MS, passed away Friday, September 11, 2020. She was loving wife of 66 years to Arthur Hodge, deeply caring mother to her two children Lisa and Greg, and doting grandmother to her five grandchildren. Most of all, she was a faithful servant of God, having accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior and Lord when she was a child.

After serving many years as co-owner and chief financial officer at her family’s three McAlpin’s Department Stores and various other businesses in Mississippi, Betty returned to her most cherished livelihood as a stay-at-home wife and mom.

Betty was predeceased by her parents, Ruby and Hugh Talmadge Statum, and her brother, Hugh Talmadge Statum, Jr.

Survivors include Betty’s husband, Arthur W. Hodge; her daughter, Lisa Hodge Potter (Jonathan); her son, Arthur Gregory Hodge (Holly); and her cherished grandchildren, Elliott Potter (Taylor), Nicholas Hodge, Barrett Potter Bisognani (Joey), Kelsey Potter, and Alexander Hodge; sister-in-law, Mary Statum; niece, Pam Statum Jordan (Mike); nephew, Tab Statum (Becky); and special cousin Barbara S. Lantrip, who became a sister, and cousin Tammy Lantrip Stone (Tim), who became a niece and a nephew.

A Service of Remembrance for Betty Hodge will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, September 15, 2020 in the chapel of Ridout’s Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Pelham, AL. The gravesite committal service will be the same day at 2:45 p.m. at Alabama National Cemetery, Montevallo.
