Beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather Benny Howard Monk of Mendenhall, Mississippi, entered into the presence of the Lord on Sunday, July 21, 2024. He was 89.
Benny’s Christian faith was an essential part of his life. He was actively involved during his life as a Sunday School teacher, Deacon, Choir member, and served on various Committees at First Baptist Church in Mendenhall, where he had great enjoyment serving the Lord.
Aside from the past three years, Benny lived his entire life in Mendenhall, Mississippi. During his teen years, many people still relied on an ice box to keep food cool, and he worked at the ice plant in Mendenhall making ice and helping his brother, Ellis, deliver ice. He graduated from Mendenhall High School and was a proud member of the 1953 Little Dixie Champion Mendenhall Tigers football team. Most of his career was spent in sales. He met his wife, Ann, while delivering milk door-to-door. He found a lot of satisfaction in sales and later worked in snack vending, car, and insurance sales before retiring.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edd and Janie Monk; brothers, Ellis Monk and William Earl Monk; sister, Mary Francis Monk; daughter, Jennifer Monk; and granddaughter, Leslie Monk.
He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Ann; son, Mike (Becky) Monk of Brandon; daughter, Cindy Jensen of Brandon; grandchildren, Lindsey (Jim) Tracy, Jessica (Jason) King, and Jared (Carmen) Jensen; great-grandchildren, Alden Tracy, Anisten Tracy, Easton Tracy, Lennyn King, Jack King, Brystol Luckey, and Hank Jensen; brother, Joe (Kathy) Monk; sister, Frankie Nell Jones; and a host of nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, July 23, 2024, from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Tutor Funeral Home in Mendenhall. The funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel at Tutor Funeral Home, with Dr. Jim Futral officiating. Interment will follow in Mendenhall City Cemetery.
Arrangements are entrusted with Tutor Funeral Home of Mendenhall.
