The youth orchestra provides students with positive experiences and gives them opportunities to be part of an ensemble where they can interact with other young players who share their interest in music. The program will benefit local string musicians by improving their playing level, increasing their orchestral experience, and preparing them to be part of an orchestral program on the collegiate level.

The SMYO meets on Mondays from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. in FAB Room 105 of the School of Music. For more information call 601.818.8092 or email to: smyostrings@yahoo.com

Registration also is underway for the 2015 fall season of the Southern Mississippi Kids Orchestra that will include 12 sessions beginning Aug. 31 and Sept. 1.

Beginner classes will be held from 4:30 – 5:30 on Mondays. Those with some experience will train from 4:30 – 5:30 p.m. on Tuesdays. The registration fee is $150.

The orchestra is designed for students in grades three through fifth. Registration is being held at Temple Baptist Church. Availability is limited. For information contact Gladys Gonzalez at 601.408.0755 or smkostrings@gmail.com
