The City of Magee and Love’s Travel Stop will be bustling Thursday, May 9th, around 11:30 AM. The famous race car driver Kyle Petty and 150 “other” motorcycles will enter our city! Approximately 250 riders will be on the bikes. Our Governor Phil Bryant will join the pack for a ride!
The event is part of a Kyle Petty Charity Ride Across America Celebrating the 25th anniversary with the longest route ever!
The ride begins in Seattle, Washington and ends in Key Largo, FL.
I was privileged to FaceTime interview Kyle several weeks ago. One of the questions I asked was “how did you pick Magee?”
Ya’ll, we are the only town in the state of Mississippi that the Charity Ride is stopping. Kyle explained that when they put a ruler to the map, the line came through Magee, Mississippi and we had a Love’s! Isn’t that wild!
The Charity Ride focus on raising money in memory of Kyle’s son, Adam, who was killed in a race car accident. The charity money goes to Victory Junction which exists to provide life-changing camping experiences for children ages 6-16 with chronic medical conditions or serious illness.
Celebrities will be in attendance at the event! Just a few of the “big names” are: NASCAR Hall of Famer and 7 time champion, Richard Petty; NASCAR legend Harry Grant, Hershel McGriff, and Donnie Allison; current MAS
CAR driver David Regan; former Formula 1 Champ Car and NASCAR driver Max Papis; former NFL great and Heisman Trophy winner Herschel Walker; Heisman Trophy winner and Super Bowl Champion George Rogers; and NBC Sports NASCAR personalities Krista Voda Ruthlege Wood and Rick Allen.
A NSCAR car will be available for viewing plus, you can get your picture made with the folks and obtain autographs!
According to Mayor Dale Berry, the 49 frontage road from Fred’s to Love’s will be barricaded to allow for parking along the frontage road. Fans are encouraged to arrive early and wear their team/school/business T-Shirt.
One thing Kyle told me is they don’t remember the town for just the food, but the noise the crowd makes! Now, ya’ll know we are some loud people. We should fit right in!
Please help get the word to everyone.
Melinda Hart of Sassi Southern Catering is serving the riders! You know they will get some delicious food!!!
Make plans to join the fun at Love’s Thursday, May 9th by 11:30 AM.
