The state of Mississippi, not the county supervisors, has closed another bridge in Simpson County, and I don’t think it will be the last closing.
The first bridge on New Hope Road off Highway 49 has been closed.
Upon inspections by the State, bridges were found to be unsafe. Several years ago, the State took over the responsibility for the upkeep and inspection of bridges. Due to a shortage of state funds, the two bridges are closed until further notice. (The other bridge that is closed is the first bridge on Sharon Saratoga Road which is off of highway 28 East.)
