Today, I received a message from Kristie Lee Barnett concerning the problem of allowing children only “breaks” to go to the restroom during the school day.
I am posting what Kristie said…and you can sign her petition…just wanted to see what ya’ll think about this situation.

TARGET: Simpson County School District
Our children deserve to have bathroom breaks as needed. “Holding it in” can cause serious health problems including sever infections and incontinence. No 2 children are the same. Limiting bathroom breaks to 2 times per school day is inhumane. Even prisoners are allowed bathroom breaks as needed. As adults we are told to drink more water and to use the restroom regularly to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Our children are being conditioned to drink less so that they will not disrupt the classroom with bathroom breaks. Unscheduled bathroom breaks are being treated as bad behavior. This is NOT healthy! Help me fight for our children’s rights. They should be treated fairly. They should be allowed bathroom breaks as needed for their health and well being. Please help me in this fight!
YOU have the power to create change.

The whole problem is that this done to benefit the teacher. The don’t want “their” time interrupted, no matter who it hurts. This is not the only way that the students are sacrificed for the teachers’ convenience either. It is about time that the teachers and the school system realize that the school is not there for the benefit of the teacher. The school is there for the students and the teachers are there to serve and educate them.
My daughter is currently seeing a doctor for problems related to “holding it.” The doctor said it is especially common in girls and it can cause many bowel problems. My daughter is only 8. I have told her to NOT hold it. I said if you have to really “go”… Raise your hand, say “emergency”, and go to the bathroom. I told her she should not hold it until she has an accident or it causes her to hurt or be unable to concentrate. Adults don’t hold it, so why should children??
