(Information from the Thursday, July 30th School Board Meeting provided by the Central Office)
We are pleased to announce that the Simpson County School Board will be utilizing Advisory Committees on an as need basis when specific skills and/or experiences are not available from the School District or Board Members. Advisory Committee membership is expected to consist of individuals who are located throughout the County. Those individuals participating on a Committee would not be able to participate if there is any potential conflict of interest. Examples of areas where such Committees may be utilized would be in the areas of planning, real estate, targeted training, project analysis, etc. We have already engaged a group of individuals to assist us in reviewing the site options for the New Magee Elementary School. This review process has been very helpful in not just considering the property options but identifying potential cost and safety issues associated with each potential site. We are confident that the final decision will result in a better decision in terms of cost considerations, safety for our students and their parents, and deliver an excellent school facility.
We feel that there are many talented individuals throughout our county who possess certain skills that can provide unpaid counsel to the Board. These skills can potentially be of great value in improving how we conduct our planning processes, review our project prioritizing steps, etc. The duration of any committee will depend upon the scope of the work they may be assigned and may work either individually or jointly with the School District and School Board. Committee Members will have no decision-making authority or be empowered to act on the behalf of the School District or School Board. Advisory Committee participation will be limited to between 3-9 individuals depending upon the specific requirements of the project.
It is our goal to continuously improve the quality of education for all students in Simpson County by effectively utilizing a diverse set of resources we have available to solve the challenges we currently face as well as in the future.
