The Scriptural passage chosen for today is found in Ephesians 4:29: “Do not let unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up, according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.” The apostle Paul was very direct when speaking to the Christians, those new converts, in the early church. His inspired words should resound with us today, as they have down through the corridors of Time. We are to choose our words very carefully as we go about our daily lives. (My grandmother, “Mama” to us grandchildren, said that people with loose tongues were once called “bell-clappers.) Yes, we are admonished to build up and not tear down. Christ is our example, as He was Paul’s. Let’s keep in mind that “A gentle answer turns away wrath” (Proverbs 15:1), along with, and perhaps my favorite, “A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in settings of silver” (Proverbs 25:11). Amen
