While cleaning out a drawer, a found a copy of the Trojan Trivia my son Dickey compiled when he was 11 years old and a 5th grader in Mrs. Tawesia Meador’s gifted class at Magee Elementary. Dickey is now 47 (I think…I never know my children’s ages!!!)
I think I will post questions every once in awhile and see who really knows Magee Football!
First question:
How many yards was Walter Paton held to in the 1971 game against the Magee Trojans?
Bruce Smith sent me a “prize” this weekend! Pictures from the 1970-71 football season.
This is the South Little Dixie all conference offense and defense for that year(the football season was 1970 not 1971) Number 22 is Walter Payton(doesn’t look very impressive does he. Looks are deceiving)
Trojans are Joey Hughes, 51, center; J. Mike Smith, 52, tackle; on offense. Bruce Smith, 50, Linebacker; Bob Roberts, 24, defensive back; and Bruce Steele, 77, tackle; on defense.
Trojan coaches were Troy Greer, Jerry Sullivan, Earnest Jaynes, Orland Everett.
Bruce informed me he did not know how many yards Walter Paton scored “but it wasn’t very many.”
With a great team effort the Trojans were able to shut Payton down!
According to Bruce, “It took the whole team to stop him (Payton) because he was a great player. I vividly remember watching game film of Columbia the week before our game thinking “how do you stop this guy”.
I’ll post the answer Tuesday,…no cheating!
Enjoy!
