LAUREL, Miss. — March 31, 2026 — South Central Regional Medical Center is pleased to announce several organizational changes. Including the recent appointment of Tyler Whittington, RN, BSN, as Chief Nursing Officer and Sherry Brewer, RN, BSN, as Emergency and Support Services Officer.
Whittington is a Laurel native who earned his Bachelor of Science in Nursing from The University of Southern Mississippi and became a registered nurse in 2012. He has worked at SCRMC since February 2012, serving in a variety of leadership roles, including Staff RN in the ICU, ICU Charge Nurse, ICU Coordinator, Director of ICU and Assistant Chief Nursing Officer.
Whittington is motivated by a strong desire to make a meaningful difference, supporting individuals and families during some of their most vulnerable moments while contributing to positive, lasting outcomes.
“I am eager for the opportunity to lead this exceptional team as we continue to deliver excellent, patient-centered care at SCRMC,” Whittington said. “My vision is to ensure safe, high-quality care, and my mission is to support and empower our teams by aligning people, practice and technology to achieve outstanding clinical and operational outcomes.”
Brewer’s career at SCRMC spans more than three decades, beginning in nursing and advancing through key leadership roles, including Director and Vice President of Emergency Services and most recently Chief Nursing Officer. Her deep institutional knowledge and proven leadership make her uniquely suited to guide these essential services forward.
This transition aligns Brewer’s proven leadership with critical operational areas that directly impact patient experience and hospital performance.
“I look forward to stepping into this new role that allows me to support the overall health of the organization by overseeing essential emergency and hospital support departments,” Brewer said.
As Emergency and Support Services Officer, Sherry will oversee the operations of the following departments:
  • EMServ
  • Emergency Services
  • Security and Guest Services
  • Food Services and Nutrition
  • EVS, Laundry & Grounds
  • Children’s Academy
“Tyler and Sherry are both proven leaders who have helped elevate the standard of care at South Central,” South Central President and CEO Gregg Gibbes said. “We are eager to see what they accomplish in this next phase of each of their careers at South Central.”
South Central extends its appreciation for Whittington’s and Brewer’s continued dedication to the organization.
