Statement on Officer-Involved Shootings

Today, the Office of the Attorney General announced it has completed the review of three incidents involving officer-involved shootings. These include a September 14, 2025, incident in Pearlington involving one sergeant and one deputy with the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department; a September 28, 2025, incident in Wiggins involving one deputy with the Stone County Sheriff’s Department; and an October 19, 2025, incident in Nesbit involving one lieutenant and three deputies with the DeSoto County Sheriff’s Department. In all three incidents, the Attorney General’s Office found the use of force was justified. Pursuant to Section 45-1-6 of the Mississippi Code, the reviews followed an investigation by the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation.
