Thursday night, April 23, 2026, Simpson County students who met qualifications were recognized at the Magee High School Auditorium as Mississippi Scholars. Four schools participated in the event: Magee High School, Mendenhall High School, Simpson Academy, and Simpson Tech Center.
The road to a Mississippi Scholar is not easy and must be committed to by the 8th grade.
Requirements:
- Complete a college-prep course of study (math, science, English, etc.)
- Maintain at least a 2.5 GPA
- Score around an 18–19 ACT
- Have 95% attendance
- Complete 80 hours of community service
- Have no out-of-school suspensions
The Mississippi Scholars Program is a statewide initiative designed to encourage high school students to complete a more rigorous academic curriculum and be better prepared for college or the workforce.
- The program began in 2003 and is now offered in all 82 counties in Mississippi
- It focuses on strong academics, attendance, behavior, and community involvement
