The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks (MDWFP) is excited to announce Tuesday, July 4th is a “Free Fishing Day”, offering residents the opportunity to enjoy fishing without a license on any public water throughout the state.

MDWFP encourages residents to take advantage of this opportunity and visit one of our 19 state lakes or 18 state park lakes while creating lasting memories and fostering a love for fishing and conservation.

Free Fishing Days are a great opportunity to try out fishing for the first time, or for seasoned anglers to introduce someone new to the sport. Please note that while a license isn’t required to sport fish, permits to fish at a state-owned lake will still be required.

Roosevelt State Park and Paul B. Johnson State Park will be hosting our annual 4th of July celebrations. Bring your picnic blankets, lawn chairs, and settle in for an unforgettable evening of family fun!

Paul B. Johnson State Park kicks off at 8:00 a.m. There will be food truck vendors and a snow cone stand. Entry fee to the park is $10 (cash only) per carload. Spend the day exploring the nature trails, playing disc golf, and cooling off on the splash pad. The Splash Zone will be operating its regular hours from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. End the day with a fireworks display commencing at dark.

Roosevelt State Park will start the day at 9:00 a.m., with vendors on site. The entry fee to the park is $10 (cash or card) per carload. Enjoy the day with other outdoor activities such as nature trails, disc golf, and water activities. The park’s pool and waterslide will be open and operating at their normal weekday hours from 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Starting at 6:00 p.m. karaoke with Lady J and kids bikes, trikes, and wagon patriotic parade. There will be a Patriotic boat parade at 7:00 p.m. Anyone wishing to participate will meet in the lake at 6:30 to line up. At 7:45 p.m. is a watermelon eating contest and 8:00 performing will be Pistol Black and Vocal recording artist, Chase Waters. End the day with a beautiful fireworks display sponsored by Forest County Board of Supervisors.

Together, let’s celebrate our nation’s independence with an unforgettable day of fun!
