Attention Magee Community – Bump and Rob Alert
Although this type of incident has not yet occurred in Magee, we want you to be prepared and avoid becoming a victim, if this ever occurred to you. Other jurisdictions have reported a dangerous tactic known as “bump and rob.” In these incidents, criminals intentionally rear end vehicles or even reverse into them to force drivers to exit their vehicles, leaving them vulnerable to robbery or kidnapping. While these incidents have been reported elsewhere, they can happen anywhere, especially in rural areas where help may be farther away.
Safety Tips to Protect Yourself:
• Stay Alert: Always be aware of your surroundings. Trust your instincts if something feels off, proceed with caution.
• Keep Your Doors Locked: Even after a minor collision, keep your doors locked and avoid exiting your vehicle unless you are certain it is safe.
• Be Cautious When Exiting: If you are forced out of your vehicle or someone approaches following an incident, do not engage. Instead, move to a safe distance and immediately call 911.
• Note Suspicious Details: If you observe any unusual behavior, record details such as license plate numbers, vehicle descriptions, and any identifying features. This information can be crucial for law enforcement.
• Manage Road Rage Carefully: In the heat of the moment, road rage can escalate situations quickly. If you experience or witness aggressive behavior following an incident, prioritize your safety and dial 911.
• Share What Occurred: Reporting and sharing your experience helps spread awareness. When more people know what to look for, it helps prevent others from becoming victims.
• Exercise Your Second Amendment Rights Responsibly: If you choose to exercise your right to bear arms, ensure you are properly trained by a certified instructor. Learn safe handling, proper usage, and understand the legal parameters of self defense. Remember, the use of a firearm is only justified when your life or the lives of others is in imminent danger. It’s better to be prepared and not need it than to need it and not be prepared.
