Following prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance, the July 7, 2025, Simpson County Board of Supervisors began.
Tim Gray, Chancery Clerk, presented the following report:
Joyce Ann Hicks gave the 2nd quarterly monthly report for Simpson Justice 2025 Simpson County Board of Supervisors meeting:
County Engineer Greg Bonds reported that C-Spire is overseeing several fiber installation projects in the Magee area, including Woodgate and Boling Street NE. He also noted that the Dry Creek Road project is currently awaiting final inspection. Looking ahead, Bonds expressed hope that two county roads—Old River Road and Bridgeport Road—will receive funding during the first quarter of 2026.
Simpson County Board Approves Road Department Updates
During the recent meeting, Road Manager Jermey Bolton presented several personnel and operational requests to the Simpson County Board of Supervisors.
The Board approved the hiring of Thomas Jaynes as a full-time CDL employee, as well as the promotion of Phillip Goodwin and Jeffrey Lee from part-time to full-time positions.
In other business, the Board approved an auction agreement with JM Wood for a total of $230,000.00 with a 7% fee.
A motion was also approved to transfer responsibility for Heavy Haul/Logging Permits from the Road Department to Community Development, with a $50 application fee to be assessed at the time of filing.
Road work updates: Pre-leveling of Jupiter Road is expected to be completed by Tuesday, July 8, 2025. In addition, all skid plates have now been installed on the 430 Backhoes.
Sheriff Paul Mullins report:
Tax Assessor Jamie Brewer submitted the June 2025 Surrender Tag List and the Solid Waste Report for the month. She also reminded the public that tax rolls are now open for inspection and will remain open until the first Board meeting in August.
County Administrator Charlie Welch presented his monthly report following Jamie’s update.

Pat Brown, representing Economic Development, emphasized the significance of Howard Industries’ continued commitment to Simpson County.
“This is a very positive move for the county,” Brown stated, expressing optimism about the potential benefits for local growth and employment.
He also stressed the importance of cooperation between the Simpson County Board of Supervisors and the Simpson County School Board, urging all parties to “turn every stone to be successful.”
Simpson County Citizen Melinda Green appeared before the Board of Supervisors to request permission to have the only copy of the plaque for the new subdivision, Jacob’s Crossing, duplicated. County Engineer Greg Bonds agreed to take the plaque to his engineering office for copying and to return it to the Board. Mrs. Green expressed her appreciation for Mr. Bonds’ assistance.
Jacob’s Crossing is still in the very early stages of development. According to Mrs. Green, she currently holds the deeds to the land. Attorney Danny Welch noted that several legal and procedural steps must be completed before any work on the project can begin.

Future Board Meetings will begin at 8:00 AM.
